Help your child move, play and thrive.

Tell us a little about your child and our team will be in touch to talk through the right therapy program for them. Takes under 60 seconds.

  • One interdisciplinary team. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and exercise physiologists working to one connected plan for your child.
  • Trexo robotic gait training & hydrotherapy. Specialised equipment and a warm-water pool to support your child’s movement.
  • Regular & intensive programs. Ongoing weekly sessions or 1, 2 or 3 week intensive blocks

Answering Your FAQs

Do we need a referral or diagnosis to start?

No. Just complete the interest form. It’s open to children of all ages and abilities, and it’s how they understand your child’s needs and match you to the right program. No GP referral or formal diagnosis required to begin.

What conditions do you support?

Children with diverse needs, including but not limited to: cerebral palsy, HIE, global developmental delay, chromosomal disorders (including, but not limited to STXBP1, CMV, CTKL5), autism, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, dyspraxia, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, birth complications and brain malformations, scoliosis and postural concerns, hip dysplasia, and genetic conditions like Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi, Angelman, Rett, Fragile X and SMA.

If your child’s condition isn’t listed, please get in touch. The list is a starting point, not a cut-off.

What’s the difference between regular therapy and an intensive block?

Regular therapy usually involves ongoing weekly sessions.

An intensive is different. It’s a structured one to three-week block where your child attends therapy more frequently, often daily, creating more opportunities to practise the same skills within a shorter period of time.

Skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling and walking require repeated practice to develop. By increasing the frequency and repetition of therapy, intensive blocks are designed to support motor learning, neuroplasticity and the development of functional skills.

It’s evidence-based therapy delivered in a more condensed, focused format.

Is my child a candidate for intensive therapy?

Intensives may be a good fit if your child would benefit from a more focused block of therapy.

A one-week intensive can be a great way to trial the format and focus closely on a specific goal.

A three-week intensive gives your child more time for repetition, progression and building on skills across consecutive sessions. This longer format can allow the therapy team to work more deeply towards functional goals and adjust the program as your child progresses.

We support children of all ages in our intensive therapy program; neurological conditions (cerebral palsy, GDD, brain injury, stroke, muscle tone disorders, spinal cord injury, spina bifida); genetic conditions affecting movement (Down Syndrome, PWS, Rett, PURA, STXBP1, CDKL5); post-op rehab (tendon releases, SDR, SEMLs); or kids needing extra support before starting school. Not sure? Submit your enquiry and our team will be in touch.

What makes our therapy different?

What makes our therapy different is the range of technology, environments and treatment options we can use within both regular and intensive therapy.

Trexo is a wearable robotic walking system that supports children to practise stepping in an upright, over-ground position. Robotic legs attach to a walker and guide the legs through a walking pattern, while speed, weight-bearing and the level of assistance can be adjusted to suit each child.

For children who can initiate movement, active-assist settings can respond to their effort and support repeated stepping practice while working on strength, coordination and walking skills.

Hydrotherapy gives children another environment to move and practise in.

Warm water reduces the effect of gravity and provides buoyancy, which can make some movements easier to explore than they are on land. The resistance of the water can also be used to work on strength, balance, movement control and endurance.

The difference is that therapy isn’t limited to one room or one way of working towards a goal.

Depending on your child’s needs, therapy can bring together hands-on treatment, land-based movement, hydrotherapy, Trexo robotics and high-repetition practice to create more opportunities to work towards meaningful functional goals.

Where are you and do you help with travel?

We have two clinics in New Zealand: Rotorua (57 Pererika Street) in the North Island and Christchurch (48 Acheron Drive, Riccarton) in the South Island, putting most families within driving distance.

To make trips with a medically complex child easier, we run an equipment library, so on arrival you can access showering, bathing and other ADL supports rather than hauling your own.

Can we use funding?

Funding options may be available for therapy services at Centre of Movement in New Zealand.

Depending on your child’s circumstances and eligibility, therapy may be funded through pathways such as:

  • Ministry of Health funding
  • ACC
  • Training for Independence
  • Private health insurance

Not sure what applies to your family? Get in touch with our team and we can talk you through the available therapy and funding options.
